“We’re Out of Time”: Final Distress Calls Heard Before Fatal Florida Jet Crash
Air traffic control recordings capture the final communications between a Learjet 60 crew and controllers before the aircraft crashed in Florida, killing all nine people aboard.
▶ Watch the videoA recording of the final communications between a private jet’s crew and air traffic controllers has emerged following a fatal aircraft crash in Palm Beach County, Florida, that killed all nine people aboard.
The Learjet 60 crashed on Sunday, November 1, 2026, after departing Austin, Texas, for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas.
In the air traffic control recording, the crew initially reported managing ice accumulation and experiencing moderate turbulence. They later reported precipitation and requested permission to climb to a higher altitude.
The situation deteriorated rapidly. The pilot declared an emergency, reporting that the aircraft was descending at an alarming rate and had entered an overspeed condition.
As the aircraft continued losing altitude, the pilot warned controllers, “We’re going to crash into the ground.” The final recorded communication included the words, “We’re out of time.”
The aircraft subsequently crashed in the Palm Beach County area near Greenacres, killing everyone aboard. Authorities also evacuated hundreds of residents from a nearby community as emergency teams responded to the scene.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The cause of the crash has not yet been established.
The recording provides a disturbing account of the crew’s final attempts to communicate with air traffic control, but investigators have not determined what caused the aircraft to lose control.
The investigation remains ongoing.
